Borrowing

  • Students may borrow up to 25 books at a time for 30 days, 10 magazines for 14 days, and 10 DVDs/videos for 7 days. Most media equipment (laptops, video cameras, audio recorders, etc.) may be borrowed by  students for up to 24 hours.
  • Faculty and staff may borrow an unlimited number of Regina Library books for 90 days, 10 magazines for 14 days, and 10 DVDs/videos for 14 days. ERC items have a loan period of 30 days instead of 90 days.  Media equipment (laptops, video cameras, audio recorders, etc.) may be borrowed by faculty and staff as needed.
  • Alumni may borrow 10 books for 30 days, 10 magazines for 14 days, and 5 DVDs/videos for 7 days.
  • RISE members may borrow 10 books for 30 days, 10 magazines for 14 days, and 5 DVDs/videos for 7 days.
  • NHCUC Students and Faculty may borrow 10 books for 30 days.
  • Test kits circulate for 10 days to authorized students and faculty only.
  • Newspapers and Reference materials do not circulate.

Holds

  • Rivier students, faculty, staff, alumni and Sisters may place holds on books and videos via the “Request” function in the online catalog. Holds may not be placed on tests, reserves, ERC software or reference books.
  • Faculty may place holds on books, videos, and tests.
  • Items are held for 10 days after notification; after 10 days, the hold status is removed and the item is returned to the circulating collection.
  • Patrons with an item that has a hold placed on it during its loan period must return the item by its due date. Such items are not eligible for renewal.

Late Policy

  • Overdue notices are sent five times during the 30 days after an item’s due date. After 30 days, a bill is issued for replacement (cost varies) and processing ($25) fees.
  • For videos, overdue notices are sent five times during the 30 days after an item’s due date.  After 30 days, a bill is issued for replacement (cost varies) and processing ($25) fees.
  • For tests, there is an overdue fine of $5.00 per day beginning with the first day after the due date, with a maximum fine of $75.00 per item. Overdue notices are sent five times during the 30 days after the test’s due date.  If the item remains unreturned after this period, a bill is issued for the replacement cost and processing fee for the item. Replacement costs for tests are determined by library management.
  • For media equipment, there is an overdue fine of $5.00 per hour. Replacement costs and processing fees for lost or damaged equipment are to be determined by library management.
  • For reserve materials, study room keys, and white board kits, there is an overdue fine of $1.00 per hour.
  • If material is returned after billing, the replacement cost and processing fee are canceled; incurred fines remain.
  • When overdue fines and/or replacement costs reach $15.00, the borrower’s account will be blocked from further lending (excluding in-library use only items) until the fine is resolved.
  • All funds collected for the replacement of lost library materials will be used toward library collection purchases.
  • Overdue items are considered a financial obligation to the University (see Student Handbook).
  • For your convenience, an outside book return is available at the main entrance. Circulating library books and movies may be returned at either the Regina Library or the ERC. All other items need to be returned to the originating library.
  • Extremely overdue items returned after their records have been removed from the library system may incur a $25.00 cataloging fee upon return.

Payment Options

Fines for items returned late as well as replacement and processing fees for lost/damaged items may be paid in several ways:

Fines can be paid in person at the Student Accounts/Business Office located in Adrienne Hall. Checks/Money Orders should be made out to Regina Library and please include your name, Rivier ID# and “library fine” written in the memo line.

Mail (Check or Money Order)

Checks/Money Orders should be made out to Regina Library and please include your name, Rivier ID# and “library fine” written in the memo line.

Registration

  • For current Rivier students, faculty, staff and RISE, the Rivier ID card serves as the library card.
  • Alumni register by bringing an ID to the circulation desk.
  • NHCUC students and faculty register by bringing their current university ID to the circulation desk. NHCUC staff do not have borrowing privileges.
  • Sodexo staff register by filling out a form at the circulation desk and signing the Computer Use Policy. Library staff confirms employment with Sodexo management before library privileges begin.
  • Conference attendees and guests of the university do not have borrowing privileges unless granted special allowances prior to coming on campus.
  • Nashua public and private high school students do not have borrowing privileges.
  • Family members of Rivier faculty/staff do not have borrowing privileges.

Renewals

  • Books may be renewed a maximum of two times. After returning a book that has been renewed, there is a one day wait period before checking out the same item.
  • Renewals can be made online by the borrower under “My Library Account,” in person at the library, or by phone at 603-897-8256.
  • Videos/DVDs are renewable only by faculty (1 renewal/DVD). After returning a video, there is a one day wait period before checking out the same item.
  • Tests are not renewable. After returning a test, there is a one day wait period before checking out the same item.
  • Books/Videos/DVDs that are on hold for another patron may not be renewed.

Recall

  • In special situations, library materials may be recalled by library staff.

Test Collection Circulation Guidelines

  • Students/faculty/staff who are not authorized as indicated below may not use test materials.
  • Special permissions have been granted by test publishers to allow use of tests by students and faculty for course purposes only. Tests may not be used for personal or professional use. Please see the Test Policy for full details.
  • Tests and manuals circulate only to current students/faculty/staff as indicated below and are available on a first come, first served basis. A university ID or other photo ID may be requested to verify identity.

Students Enrolled in or Faculty Teaching a Test Course and students in the Doctor of Psychology program

  • The loan period for students in the Doctor of Psychology program and students enrolled in or faculty teaching a test course* is 10 days; no renewals are allowed.
  • There are a limited number of extra test manuals for some highly used tests. The non-renewable loan period for these test manuals is 10 days.
  • Library staff will use their best judgment based on test availability and demand to determine if:
    • Tests may be requested to be set aside for pickup within a 24-hour window, or
    • Test due date may be extended up to three days. Extensions will only be considered up to 48 hours prior to due date, not at the time of checkout.
  • Tests cannot be requested to pick up at a future date greater than 24 hours.
  • A maximum of two tests at a time per test course may be borrowed.
  • Overdue fines: $5 per day, maximum $75.

  • Faculty members must contact the Director of Graduate Programs for Education and/or the Psychology Department Coordinator for authorization to access any test.

*A test course is defined as one that offers instruction on how to use various education and/or psychological tests.

 Students with Special Permission

  • Students with special permission, in the form of an email confirmation from either the Director of Graduate Programs for Education or the Psychology Department Coordinator, may review up to two tests or test manuals at a time for a maximum of four hours a day, in library only.
  • Tests that are more than 30 days overdue will be considered lost. Replacement costs vary.
