Rivier partners with several non-profit agencies. Would you like to work with young children or developmentally disabled adults, prepare meals at a soup kitchen, help out at a food pantry, or maybe mentor a school-age child?
Service Learning
Service learning integrates socially significant service into your education experience. You’ll take part in community-based projects that give greater meaning to the theories presented in your classes.
Service learning provides you with unique opportunities to get involved in causes and organizations that you believe make a difference.
By applying and testing classroom learning, students say they gain a deeper understanding of their coursework. The service experience opens new windows of awareness and self-confidence, and it often helps confirm or inspire new academic and career choices.
One Requirement, Many Options
All undergraduate day students are required to take SL 100 Serving the World, a one-credit course, prior to graduation. Most students enroll in this course in their sophomore year. This service-learning course includes 20 hours of community service at your choice of Rivier partner agencies. SL 100 includes readings, class discussions, off-campus service projects, journaling, and a final portfolio project.
Serve the World
Each year, the Office of Global Engagement coordinates a weeklong faculty-led service trip during spring break.
