Department of Education and Counseling
The Department of Education and Counseling offers degree programs and certifications for prospective and current teachers. Degrees are offered at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.
Teachers, school counselors, and administrators who graduate from Rivier are in high demand—for their dedication, competence, and wide-ranging practical experience. Our students are taught and mentored by professors who are widely recognized both regionally and nationally as experts in special education, school management, and learning styles, among other areas.
Our undergraduate programs offer extensive hands-on field and student teaching experience. Through a focus on experiential learning and field experience beginning in their first year, students can build their confidence in the classroom as well as their resume. Students learn to connect theory with practice and prepare to play a valuable role in the lives of today’s students.
Education majors can take full advantage of the University’s state-of-the-art Education Center, featuring a laboratory preschool for children ages twelve months to six years of age, state-of-the-art classrooms, a parenting resource center, counseling rooms with one-way observation windows, and an extensive curriculum and software library.
Advance your career
Our master’s programs in Education are recognized throughout the region as the programs of choice for current and prospective teachers. The University offers a variety of education, school psychology, and counseling programs—all designed to prepare graduates to become highly qualified teachers or to assume leadership roles in various fields of specialization. Our graduate students may enroll in many programs leading to licensing or certification only or as part of a graduate degree program.
Our distinguished Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership and Learning provides educators with an understanding of the social, cultural, economic, and political influences and forces in society that affect education. Our doctoral program seeks to prepare leaders who anticipate the need for effective policies, practices, and interventions based on current research to promote and enhance leadership in learning and teaching.
The Combined Doctoral Program in Counseling and School Psychology builds on Rivier’s existing M.A. and Ed.S. programs at Rivier University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Psychology that lead to licensure by the New Hampshire Board of Mental Health Practice (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) or that are approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education (School Psychology).
