Why Study Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at Rivier?

Rivier’s Applied B.S. in Artificial Intelligence/M.S. in Computer Science 3+1 program allows students to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in just four years, accelerating career readiness and positioning graduates for early advancement and long-term professional success. Complete your 90-credit applied bachelor’s degree in just three years and earn a Master’s with just one additional year of study.

As an Artificial Intelligence major, you will develop strong technical expertise through Rivier’s workforce-focused, hands-on learning model, which emphasizes experiential learning, applied problem-solving, and real-world applications. When paired with the master’s degree in Computer Science, you will build a comprehensive foundation in software development, information technology, and advanced computing concepts, preparing you for a wide range of technology-driven careers.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ August 2025 report projects employment of computer and information research scientists to grow 20% from 2024 to 2034, highlighting the strong career potential in this evolving industry.

In the Applied B.S. in Artificial Intelligence/M.S. in Computer Science 3+1 program, you will:

  • Acquire proficiency in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and data mining.
  • Design, build, and apply AI solutions using modern programming tools and frameworks.
  • Analyze and interpret complex datasets using statistical methods and data visualization techniques.
  • Develop, test, and deploy intelligent systems while examining the ethical, social, and legal implications of artificial intelligence.
  • Master both the theory and application of computing and quantitative research methods.
  • Gain a broad understanding of the social, cultural, and societal impact of mathematics and computing.

What is a three-year applied bachelor’s degree?

Unlike accelerated degrees, where students graduate early by taking classes year-round, students in the three-year applied bachelor’s degree program carry a regular semester load of courses during the fall and spring semesters for a total of 90 credits over three years (six semesters) compared to 120 credits over four years (eight semesters). The 90-credit format streamlines general education requirements, focusing on the major’s essential courses and core requirements.

Rivier also offers a four-year (120 credit) bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence. Students enrolled in a three-year applied bachelor’s degree program may switch to the four-year bachelor’s degree program.
