Rivier University’s New Online Doctor of Education Program Drives Innovation in Education

Rivier University’s new online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership and Learning program allows educators and other professionals to earn their advanced degree in just three years.

With Rivier University’s new online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership and Learning program, educators and other professionals can earn their advanced degree in just three years. Known throughout the region for the breadth and quality of its graduate education programs, Rivier has evolved its existing on-campus doctoral degree to a online format and shortened the time to degree completion.

“Our program equips leaders with knowledge of practices and policies shown to improve learning environments and prepares individuals to drive innovation through transformational leadership,” says Dr. John Gleason, Dean of the Division of Education and Counseling. “The program extends research on what is known about leadership and learning to professionals in the social sciences, including the applied fields of social service, health care, and counseling.” The program serves professionals in a variety of fields and roles including teachers, school administrators, principals, superintendents, counselors in behavioral health services, and more.

The program is designed for working professionals who hold a master’s degree and desire to advance their knowledge of learning based on research about human growth and development, the approaches and practices that enhance the creation of learning environments within organizations, and ways to facilitate effective change in a leadership role.

Candidates can complete their coursework online within three years while simultaneously beginning their dissertation in the first year and conducting original research on a topic of local, regional, and national significance. The program allows students to engage in doctoral study while maintaining their current employment, develop career goals, meet personal aspirations, and expand professional networks. Utilizing a cohort model, courses are offered in a 7-week format with six terms offered throughout the year in the fall, spring, and summer.

Distinguished faculty from a variety of disciplines bring rich experience in leadership, strategic decision-making in policy and intervention, research design, data collection and analysis, and presentation of findings. Faculty have notable backgrounds in the areas of scholarship, teaching, and service. Equipped to empower learners and manage positive organizational change, Rivier’s Ed.D. graduates join an ever-growing network of the University’s doctoral alumni and the expanded professional network they represent.

The University is accepting applications now for the September 2020 cohort. Applicants can learn more about the Doctor of Education in Leadership and Learning program and admissions requirements online or by contacting Rivier’s Office of Graduate Admissions at (603) 897-8507.
