Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tsongas Center (300 Arcand Drive, Lowell, MA 01852).

Commencement Events

Graduate Hooding Ceremony | Thursday, May 12, 2022 | 4 p.m.

Undergraduate Celebration: Baccalaureate Mass and Nursing Pinning | Friday, May 13, 2022 | 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Due to an overwhelming RSVP response to the Undergraduate Celebration, we have made the decision to provide two ceremonies to accommodate all attendees. Bachelor’s students, please be sure to inform your guests of the change of time. In order to limit the number of vehicles parked at the Church, we suggest that students and families carpool, if possible.

  • Please wear your gown and carry your hood (cap is not needed) when you arrive to the church hall.
  • When you arrive, please check-in at the registration table to pick-up your name card.

Associate Nursing Pinning | 4:00 p.m.

Students should arrive no later than 3:00 p.m. to line-up for the ceremony. Guests should be seated by 3:45 p.m. At the conclusion of the ceremony, we ask that students and guests depart promptly to allow space for the next ceremony. Students and guests are invited to take pictures at Rivier in front of Madeleine Hall where there will be a “Congratulations Class of 2022” display.

Bachelor Student Celebration | 6:00 p.m.
Baccalaureate Mass, Honors Recognition, Undergraduate Hooding, and Nursing Pinning

All Bachelor degree students should arrive no later than 5:15 p.m. to line-up for the ceremony. Guests should be seated by 5:45 p.m.

Students arrival by 8:30 a.m.

There is no RSVP for Commencement, and you can bring as many guests as you like. Please arrive to the Tsongas Center (east entrance) wearing your full academic regalia (cap, gown, hood, tassel, and applicable cords) before 8:30 a.m. Guests should enter through the Main Entrance, doors open at 9:00 a.m.

Cap and Gown Pick-up

Students can pick up their cap and gown by visiting Rivier Bookstore during normal business hours at the following on-campus career fairs:

  • March 29 | Business and Arts and Sciences programs
  • April 6 | Nursing and Health Sciences programs
  • April 11 | Education programs

Additionally, all graduating students can pick up regalia from the Rivier Bookstore during normal business hours beginning on Tuesday, April 12. If you did not pre-order your cap and gown, you can still pick up your regalia. Any student that is unable to pick up in person can call the Rivier Bookstore at (603) 888-4145 to arrange for shipment.

Doctoral students can order regalia by emailing Johanna Porter, in the Division of Education and Counseling.

Preparing for Graduation

Your first step toward graduation is completing your formal notification of intent to graduate. Each degree-seeking student must submit the Application for Graduation electronically or through a paper form available in the Office of the Registrar.

Submit your form by the following deadlines:

  • August 1 for the end of the summer semester to graduate on September 2
  • December 1 for the end of the fall semester to graduate on January 2
  • February 1 for the end of the spring semester to graduate in May

Students who complete degree requirements after the summer or fall semesters are encouraged to participate in the Commencement ceremony in May. You are advised to check with your Department Chairperson or Academic Advisor to be certain that all requirements for graduation have been met.

A mandatory graduation fee of $175 is charged to all students’ accounts upon acceptance of the Application to Graduate. Student account balances must be paid in full before diplomas or our new e-Diplomas are issued. Graduation fees can be paid through MyRiv.

After you submit your online Application for Graduation, you will see a confirmation page with additional information. You will receive additional information via your student email once it becomes available. Please check your Rivier University email regularly for any updates.
