The Art Gallery at Rivier University presents Beaded Loveliness exhibition

The Art Gallery at Rivier University is hosting an exhibition of Beaded Loveliness from September 28 through November 6.

Featuring free-form handcrafted jewelry by artist Marcia Weiss, the exhibition showcases her personal vision for traditional patterned beadwork techniques inspired by Indigenous craftsmanship.

Using these techniques, Weiss creates off-loom necklaces, bracelets, and other wearable works of art, blending the rhythmic patterns of traditional flat bead-stitched jewelry with her own three-dimensional improvisations. Drawn to the wide variety of textures, shapes, and shimmering colors of glass beads, she has developed distinctive visual palettes that make each piece unique.

“Beaded Loveliness offers visitors the opportunity to experience a contemporary interpretation of a beadwork tradition rooted in Indigenous craftsmanship,” says Sr. Theresa Couture, Gallery Director. “Through color, texture, and design, Weiss’s work celebrates an art form that continues to inspire artists and connect people through beauty and meaning.”

A native of New York and a longtime New Hampshire resident, Weiss worked in editorial publishing and elementary education and was a founding partner in a food catering business before establishing her jewelry-making studio. Largely self-taught, she refined her craft through workshops and classes across New England, Arizona, and South Africa.

Inspired by glassblowing, her own flame-worked beads, discovering pre-made beads from around the world, and the artistic accomplishments she encountered in Tucson, Arizona, Weiss has exhibited her work in galleries located in Florida, New Hampshire, and Cape Cod, and has been an active member of the Hollis Art Society. Beaded Loveliness serves as a retrospective of the past two decades of her work.
