Emlee C. Kohler, Ph.D.

Background

Dr. Emlee C. Kohler received her graduate training in the biological roots of Alzheimer’s disease from Bowling Green State University. While she maintains her interest in the biological roots of memory disorders, she is also interested in a wide array of topics within the field of psychology. This has led to her becoming a generalist in psychology.

Dr. Kohler’s original personal research program was focused on homing pigeons on the biochemical and neurological mechanisms of aging and Alzheimer’s disease. However, her current personal research efforts focus on two topics within the scholarship of teaching and learning: the use of manipulatives in teaching and the reading abilities of college-level students.

One of Dr. Kohler’s primary teaching goals is to promote the research efforts of her students. She has grown to enjoy working with enthusiastic students on research projects they enjoy. Dr. Kohler promotes the belief that when students engage in research they find interesting, they understand course material more completely and gain a more thorough appreciation for the role that science and data play in our society.
