Rivier University announces the naming of Linda Robinson Pavilion and plans to dedicate new athletics facilities

Marking a major milestone in its Vision 2020 strategic plan, Rivier University announced the naming of Linda Robinson Pavilion, a newly constructed facility that has transformed the University’s athletics field into a stadium.

The new facility provides stadium seating, team rooms and conference space for pre- and post-game gatherings, a training room, locker rooms, and a press box with an enhanced sound system.

Devoted alumna Linda Lemery Robinson ‘69/’79G/’94H has made it a priority to support Rivier University with her gifts of time, talent, and treasure. She is a member of the University’s Board of Trustees and the inspiration for the Linda Lemery Robinson Loyalty Society, an honor bestowed on dedicated alumni and friends who have made gifts to the University for ten consecutive years. Upon the 50th anniversary of her graduation, she has extended her commitment to the Rivier and Greater Nashua communities with a legacy gift for the new athletics pavilion.

“Linda Robinson has truly lived the mission of transforming hearts and minds to serve the world through her consistent and dedicated focus on student and co-curricular experiences,” says Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM, President. “An inspiration to all, Linda’s Board of Trustee and alumni leadership has paved the way for the success of Vision 2020.”

The University community will celebrate the dedication of Linda Robinson Pavilion and the naming of Joanne Merrill Field on September 21, 2019 at 10 a.m. The field naming, passed by a resolution of the University’s Board of Trustees and announced last spring, recognizes Joanne Merrill’s 40-year career and ongoing service as Director of Athletics. Appointed to the role in 1980, Merrill has created an athletic environment of integrity, service, and leadership for both coaches and student-athletes and led the program to more than 25 championships.

Renovation of the existing softball field known as Raider Diamond completes the University’s outdoor athletics facilities, adding stadium seating, a press box, and team dugouts. Additionally, with the launch of the new Bachelor of Science in Sport Management in fall of 2019, Rivier students will have enhanced opportunities for hands-on experiences, supporting internships and leading to employment.

Progress continues on the Rivier campus this fall with the construction of a 35,000-square-foot Science and Innovation Center. The academic facility, scheduled to open in fall 2020, will provide innovative experiences for biology, biotechnology, nursing, and public health majors, while also enhancing the general education of all Rivier students.

“The Science and Innovation Center will serve as a beacon for the Greater Nashua region reflecting academic programs that meet the growing needs of the 21st century workforce and fostering an environment of real-world problem solving and hands-on scientific engagement,” says Sister Paula.
