You must be an active F-1 student (registered full-time with an active record on SEVIS). The following documents are required for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rivier.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/06\/SocialSecurityApplication.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social security application<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SEVIS Form I-20<\/li>\n<li>Passport with I-94 and visa<\/li>\n<li>On-campus or other work agreement<\/li>\n<li>Letter of verification of status from your International Student Advisor (please notify the International Student Advising office 24 hours in advance to issue this letter)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you changed your status to F-1, wait 14 days after receiving the I-797 Approval Notice before applying for a social security number. If you&#8217;ve recently arrived in the United States, ensure your SEVIS record is active before applying for a social security number. The following documents are required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letter from the International Student Advisor verifying F-1 full-time status<\/li>\n<li>A copy of SEVIS Form I-20<\/li>\n<li>Passport (with the visa page and I-94)<\/li>\n<li>International Driver\u2019s license from home country<\/li>\n<li>Letter that certifies a good standing driving history from home country<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Filing Income Taxes<\/h2>\n<p>All F-1 students must meet IRS requirements by April 15 each year. F-1 students must file Form 8843, regardless of whether they worked during the year. If employed, students receive a W-2 form from their employer by January 30, which must be filed along with the appropriate income tax form, typically the 1040NREZ. Forms and IRS Publication 901 can be obtained from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IRS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Scholarships and Loans<\/h2>\n<p>The following agencies offer scholarships and loans to international students.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iefa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Education Financial Aid<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalslc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Student Loan Corporation <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studentloan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Discover Student Loans<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.accessgroup.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Access Group Education Lending<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalstudent.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Student<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalscholarships.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Scholarship Search<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastweb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fastweb<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Transferring Funds<\/h2>\n<p>Contact the Office of Financial Aid at (603) 897-8488 to transfer funds from your home country.<\/p>\n<h2>Medical Leave<\/h2>\n<p>To request a medical leave of absence, bring an original letter from a qualified medical physician certifying your condition and any related documentation.
