Directed study courses will be charged to the student at the prevailing rate and are not subject to tuition remission.

Due to the nature of certain laboratory courses and other skill courses, some courses cannot be taken on an audit basis. Lecture courses may be audited. The audit fee is the same as the credit charge except for Rivier University alumni and senior citizens. Rivier University Alumni
Alumni holding a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree from Rivier University are granted the privilege of auditing undergraduate courses at no tuition cost on a space-available basis. The Registration Form is authorized by the Associate Registrar who can be contacted at (603) 897-8218 or asktheadvisor@rivier.edu.

Senior Citizens
Persons 60 years of age or older are eligible to take undergraduate or professional study courses on an audit or for credit basis:

  • Audit: Courses may be audited on a space-available basis with preference being given to paying students; there is no tuition charge and cost is 100% of fees. Registration with the Registrar’s Office can be done one week prior to the start of the course.
  • For Credit: Courses may be taken for credit; cost is 50% of tuition and 100% of fees.
  • Non-credit: For persons 55 years or older, the University sponsors the Rivier Institute for Senior Education (RISE) in partnership with the Elderhostel Institute Network. Classes offer instruction on a variety of topics, meet during the day in five- or ten-week sessions, and offer no traditional college tests or credits.
