{"id":311,"date":"2017-06-22T16:51:57","date_gmt":"2017-06-22T16:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rivier.edu\/regina-library\/regina-library\/library-policies\/children-visiting-campus-libraries\/"},"modified":"2025-06-10T23:08:34","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T18:08:34","slug":"children-visiting-campus-libraries","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rivier.edu\/regina-library\/general-info\/library-policies\/children-visiting-campus-libraries\/","title":{"rendered":"Children Visiting Campus Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">Regina Library offers an adult, unsupervised <span lang=\"EN\">environment for the purpose of academic research and support of the University\u2019s curriculum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 align=\"left\"><span lang=\"EN\">Children Under 14<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Within the <span lang=\"EN\">library<\/span>, there are areas which are potentially hazardous. Caretakers (a responsible adult who is 18 years of age or older) are ultimately responsible for the safety and welfare of children in their care.<\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Children under the age of 14<\/span> are permitted in the library provided that their purpose and behavior is appropriate for an academic library. <span lang=\"EN\">Caretakers must be in the same immediate area as their children and monitor their behavior at all times. Caretakers<\/span> may not bring children and leave them unattended in the building. <span lang=\"EN\">Caretakers must<\/span> be aware of nearby persons who are studying and who may be disturbed by the activity and sound of children.<\/li>\n<li>Library staff cannot assist in supervising the actions of children in the <span lang=\"EN\">library<\/span>. If a child is observed unaccompanied or is in violation of any library policies, staff will make a reasonable attempt to inform the caretaker.\u00a0If a child under 14\u00a0is left unaccompanied in the library, staff will immediately notify the Department of Public Safety. At any time, at the discretion of the librarian in charge, a child or children or caretaker(s) may be asked to leave the premises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Nashua Public and Private High School Students<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Nashua public and private high school students may use the library spaces and computers on their own. On their first visit, a parent or caretaker must sign a Parent Consent Form and provide proof of identification. Computer use is subject to the terms of Rivier\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/it.rivier.edu\/information-technology\/acceptable-use-policy-2\/?_gl=1*131sxn5*_gcl_au*MTMxMjEzODU2Mi4xNzMwMjMyOTYx*_ga*OTM3MTA4MjU1LjE3MzAyMzI5NjE.*_ga_9E0W5FCEND*MTczNDEwNTcwNC4yNS4xLjE3MzQxMDgwMzIuNjAuMC4w\">Acceptable Use Policy<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Library staff are not responsible for supervising teenagers in the <span lang=\"EN\">library<\/span>. As with other library users, teenagers must adhere to library policies as stated.\u00a0Infractions may result in a request to leave the library.
