Alumni: Bachelor of Arts in English
Chris Roy ’07 entered the University without a career path in mind. A love of reading and writing drew him to Rivier’s English program and he quickly learned he’d made an excellent choice. “Almost immediately, I felt embraced by the faculty,” says Roy. “They took on an advising role and made me feel valued in my academic pursuit.”
Noticing his interest in literature and research, one of his professors suggested that Roy apply for work as an assistant at the campus library. “It wasn’t long before I was helping other students with their research and had found my calling.”
After graduation, Roy took on the Periodicals Supervisor position at a large university library. While working, he earned a master’s degree in library and information science.
Currently, he is the Acquisitions and Reference Librarian at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. In this role, he oversees all the acquisitions processes for library materials; maintains acquisition data, statistics, budgeting, and assessment; provides research assistance to students and faculty; and serves as a community builder to raise awareness of library services on campus.
“All of the skills I learned during my English coursework have translated into my profession as a librarian,” says Roy. “I am extremely grateful to the thoughtful, caring, and committed English faculty at Rivier.”
