Rivier University welcomes the Class of 2019 at "REACH for your Future" Orientation Week

Rivier University hosted Class of 2019 students and families on campus last week for New Student Orientation. Two orientation sessions—one June 22-23 and another June 25-26—were held to best accommodate a high level of interaction and provide personal attention to student and family needs as they prepare for entrance to the University.

At the Orientation Opening, Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM, President, welcomed families and urged students to “reach in, reach up and reach out” during the coming years to make the most from their Rivier University experience. Sister Paula’s comments were an extension of the Orientation’s REACH theme, which encouraged students to approach their college careers with Respect, Engagement, Accountability, Compassion, and Honesty.

Student and family activities ran on parallel tracks. The student schedule included a combination of academic, residence life, technology, global engagement and advising sessions. Family activities overlapped at times, but also included talks explaining student success support programs, financial aid, and campus life. Parents also had an opportunity to ask questions at a panel discussion featuring Rivier recent graduates.

Recreational events, meals and a campus scavenger hunt provided opportunities for students to socialize with future classmates and make important connections with key campus staff. The “Amazing Riv Race” scavenger hunt challenged students to navigate their way to helpful campus locations, like the Learning Commons, Regina Library, Resurrection Chapel, and Global Engagement Office, through a series of clues.

Upper-class Student Orientation Leaders assisted Student Affairs Office staff with orientation activities. Current Rivier students volunteer each year to mentor and guide incoming first-year students through Orientation.

The Class of 2019 will return to campus on New Student Move-in Day, September 6, 2015.
