The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides students, faculty and staff of Rivier University with state-of-the-art computer networks, workstations, and computer-related services. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Academic Computer Center. Known as the ACC and located in Sylvia Trottier Hall, the Center provides word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, imaging, programming, e-mail and Internet access. Managed by the OIT and staffed by Student Lab Assistants, the ACC is open every day during the academic year, and on a limited basis throughout the summer to fulfill the computing needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Hardware - The OIT considers the ACC a crucial resource for students and regularly upgrades its computer systems. The University purchases Dell Optiplex workstations for all student access computers. The lastest systems feature Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8400 processors, with 4GB RAM, Fast SATA Hard Drives, and 256MB Graphics Accelerator. The Computer Lab has 46 systems available for general use. There is also an E-Classroom of 20 systems at the ACC. In addition, the ACC maintains an E-Classroom of 20 systems in the Education Center, 20 systems in Memorial Hall, and 25 systems in Regina Library.
Software - The OIT works closely with academic departments to ensure all Dell systems are loaded with state-of-the-art software which meets and exceeds the requirements of student coursework. Each ACC and E-Classroom system includes the following software packages:
Microsoft Office 2010 - Microsoft's office suite includes Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
Maple - The Standard for Analytical Computation has the ability to manipulate information in a symbolic and algebraic manner
SPSS - Comprehensive statistical analysis software suite
The Geometer's Sketchpad - Geometry software for Euclidean, coordinate, transformational, analytic, and fractal geometry
EBSCO Publishing - Online electronic journals service
Adobe Acrobat - Software exchange for PDF files
The OIT requires approximately 3 months to license and test a new software package before it can be installed on the campus network.
