Peer-to-Peer File Sharing

The best way to protect yourself from prosecution of violating copyright law is to use a legitimate download solution. These solutions are completely legal and will save you the time and the frustation of having to worry about copyright infringement (which can be read in more detail here). To assist you, The Office of Information Technology has gathered some links to some popular legal downloading solutions:

Disable Peer-to-Peer File Sharing

The amount of internet traffic that is generated from Peer-to-Peer applications is enormous. Rivier University does take action in blocking this traffic for legal reasons, however, we may not be able to block ALL traffic. To improve the overall amount of bandwidth that is available to everyone, we ask that you NOT share your music. The added benefit is that it reduces your risk of being sued by the RIAA or another copyright enforcement agency for sharing or downloading pirated material.
