The disciplines of Business, Biology, and Biotechnology are working to transform the world by promoting a more sustainable model both here and abroad.
The mission of sustainability is being taught in the classroom, as well as through real-world application. Between Business, Biology, and Biotechnology, a group of 12 students will be traveling with faculty to Costa Rica to work with National Institute of Technology and University of Costa Rica students to develop a sustainable aquaponics project for their community. With this, students will not only secure an academic understanding of sustainability, but they will further be able to apply their knowledge with the world.
Sustainability is a complex problem that has an easy solution: beginning with a dining room table centerpiece.
Aquaponics is a biological system engineered to produce sustainably harvested vegetables and fish. Not only is aquaponics sustainable, but it is a responsible approach to harvesting resources. The fish and the plants work together to create a mutually beneficial (symbiotic) growth environment.
