Real People. Real Stories. Real Success.

Chelsey Hussey, RN, BSN ‘17

Emergency Room Nurse
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center & Elliot Hospital

How did Riv prepare you for your career?  Being a new-grad nurse can be overwhelming. My job is challenging and fast-paced, much like how nursing school felt when I was taking classes. Rivier’s program is tough, but I would not have picked anywhere else, because I felt ready to enter the workforce when I graduated.

What are your greatest challenges?  Nurses in the emergency room are part of the front line, dealing with the most acute cases that come through the ambulance bay doors. I work my hardest to make the chaotic stay for each patient as easy and painless as possible. I strive to keep a smile on my face, no matter how hard my day is, because I know that my day is not nearly as stressful as the day of my patient.

Your advice to future students? Rivier University is a place where you are a person, not a number. It is also a place where the more that you dedicate yourself to the campus life, the more that the campus life will give back to you. It is a small, private, Catholic university with so much to offer young, driven individuals who are passionate about giving back to their community.
