New and Returning Students for 2016-2017

Students applying for financial aid must file a 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1, 2016. You can apply on-line ( Returning students will be able to renew their FAFSA and update last year's data. Students should provide the most accurate information available to them. Due to the importance of filing the FAFSA/Renewal Form by the priority deadline, we recommend that students use estimated income information if their 2015 tax forms have not been completed. To do this, use your (and your parents, if applicable) tax form from 2014 if the information is similar to what you made in 2015. If there is a significant difference in income between the two years, you may estimate based on W-2s or an end-of-the-year pay stub from 2015. Generally, your taxes have completed processing by the IRS within 2-3 weeks of submission if you filed electronically. If your taxes were mailed, it can be 6-8 weeks.

Once your taxes have been processed, you will need to update your FAFSA with the completed 2015 tax information. Change the tax filing status to "Filed". It is highly recommended that you use the Data Retrieval Tool to "Link to the IRS" in your FAFSA. This will automatically bring in your 2015 tax data directly to your FAFSA. If you cannot use the Data Retrieval Tool, and you are selected for verification of your FAFSA, you may need to request a tax return transcript from the IRS.

It is important that you list our Title IV Code (002586) on the FAFSA/Renewal Form. If Rivier University is not listed, the Department of Education will not send the results of your FAFSA to our office. This form is used to apply for all types of federal, state and college aid. In order for the Financial Aid Office to award financial aid, the student must first be accepted into a degree program at Rivier University.

Due to limited funding, Rivier University has established a priority filing date of March 1. On-time financial aid applicants will be given full consideration for assistance. Late applicants will be considered on a funds-available basis.

Please note that you are not required to accept all of the aid that was awarded to you. If you wish to decline or decrease part of your aid, please do so through your Net Partner account. If you are having difficulties accessing your Net Partner account, please contact our office at 603-897-8510 or for assistance.
