In support of Rivier University’s mission, the Center for Faculty Excellence is under the auspices of the Office of Academic Affairs. It is dedicated to helping all faculty grow as teachers, scholars, and colleagues. Faculty development events, services, and resources enhance instructional innovation and effectiveness and support scholarly and creative activities. Faculty development programs offer variety and flexibility in approaches and strategies, giving faculty alternatives and allowing them to participate in a way that suits their disciplinary orientations. The University envisions faculty members themselves as both guides and resources for this program of enrichment. Whenever possible, campus faculty will engage with each other, providing recognition of faculty effort and promoting a campus culture in which faculty enjoy time together for reflection on teaching and scholarly work.
To achieve this mission, the Center works with the Faculty Development Subcommittee of the Faculty Senate, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Office of Information Technology to recommend policies, procedures, and programs that support professional development of faculty, ensuring communication between faculty and administration in relation to resource policies and allocations for faculty development. The Center also provides communication and coordination across university divisions in designing, implementing, and evaluating faculty development programs and services, advocating for the resources that faculty need to achieve transformation in teaching and scholarship.
