Post-Master’s Certificate – Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Healing through holistic healthcare.

The program of studies for our Post-Master’s Certificates vary depending upon the track desired—Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), or Nursing Educator (NE)—and the applicant’s prior Master’s in Nursing preparation. Clinical specialty preparation will be reviewed as part of the application process and used by faculty in developing the individualized program of study. Applicants who do not have clinical work in their master’s program will be required to take additional coursework.

Post-Master’s FNP and PMHNP applicants must document successful completion of a graduate level course in Pharmacology (3-credit equivalent) less than five (5) years prior to application to the Certificate Program. Waiver is considered for experienced, practicing nurse practitioners. In addition, FNP and PMHNP Post-Master’s applicants must document successful completion of a graduate level course in Pathophysiology (3-credit equivalent) less than 10 years prior to application to the certificate program. Again, this may be waived for practicing NPs.

The PMHNP certificate requires a minimum of 19 credits; the average completion time for the certificate is three semesters. Rivier offers multiple term starts throughout the year.

Licensure & Accreditation
