Director of Global Engagement
Dey Barriga has worked at Rivier University for 17 years. She serves as the Director of Global Engagement. She provides leadership in areas of International Student Services and Study Abroad. As the department’s leader, she is in charge on development and delivery of communications pertaining to Study Abroad, Faculty Led Trips and all initiatives in strengthening international relationships and outreach to international students. Ms. Barriga manages all departmental initiatives and administrative processes to ensure implementation of the University’s strategic plan with focus on globalization on campus, increase students’ mobility through study abroad and faculty-led trips and to continue to provide a welcoming atmosphere to international students from all around the world.
She is a candidate for Master Degree of Educational Studies in Counseling at Rivier University. She obtained her undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with Centro Escolar University, Philippines. She is an active member of the National Association of International Educators (NAFSA), currently serving as the SEVIS, Principal Designated School Official for the university, and members of various community committees. Her passion to serve students (international and domestic) and her mission be instrumental in transforming one student’s heart and mind at time through mentorship is a priority to her. Her dedication to promote the importance of global experience through faculty-led trip and study abroad program has been successful. She is very grateful for the collaboration she had formed with academic deans, faculty and staff in her initiatives to promote international trips.
Ms. Barriga enjoys her continuing role as the Senior Immigration and International Student Advisor. Her dedication to serve her international students is a lifelong goal. A dedicated leader and a mentor in providing a highly personal approach to help international students adjust to life at Rivier University through immigration, personal, social and cultural advising. Dey continues to develop programs, policies and practices in the area of international student services, including cultural integration and achieving success academically.
Ms. Barriga has traveled over five countries including Costa Rica where she co-led a teaching trip which focused on Biology experience in 2015, and Loyola University Chicago site visit with John Felice Rome Center, Rome, Italy in 2017. Her goal is to expand study abroad opportunities further especially summer programs for nursing students.
Karen Pratt has worked in higher education for over 28 years. As an experienced Academic Advisor to international graduate students seeking Master’s degrees in the Computer Science field, she has guided those students to achieve academic success while reaching for their professional goals. She has helped the students to adjust to the cultural norms of the United States classrooms while they discern career options and learn how their course choices link to success. She is also now working with the Office of Global Engagement on cultural events and faculty-led trips to such locations as Costa Rica, Belize, the Dominican Republic, and Panama. She was a co-leader of a faculty-led trip to Rome, Italy which explored the art, architecture, history, culture, and spirituality of the Eternal City. In addition, Karen is working with undergraduate students who are interested in studying abroad for a semester to explore the opportunities available to them.
Suzanne Bartlett joined Rivier University as the Coordinator for International Student Records in April 2016. She obtained her M.Ed. in School Counseling from Rivier, and her B.A. in International Studies from Baylor University. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of higher education positions; and is happy to now have the experience of working with international students in the Office of Global Engagement.
Student Ambassador for Global Engagement
Jenna Sabino joined Rivier University as an undergraduate student, majoring in Nursing. She is a member of the Global Scholars Honors Program offered at Rivier University, which led to her becoming a Student Ambassador for the Office of Global Engagement. With guidance and mentoring from Dey Barriga, she is able to assist anyone who is interested in study abroad. Apart from her work with the Office of Global Engagement, Jenna is also an active member of the Student Nursing Association and Dance Team on campus.
Sansriti Mishra joined Rivier University to pursue her master’s degree in Computer Information Systems. She has completed her undergraduate degree in BE (CS) with distinction from University of Mumbai in India. She was working as a Quality Analyst for Oracle on a Security Lending project for the State Street Corporation with over 2.5 years of experience in driving market share growth in designated territories. She has received appreciation many times from her client side manager. After honing and executing these specialties to reach numerous company goals, she is honored to join Rivier University as a master degree student. She loves working at the OGE office and communicating with international students transferring their complex academic queries, curriculum issues and concerns into user-friendly conversations. She informs them about international morals and manners ensuring that that their queries receive timely responses from the Office of Global Engagement. Most especially, she enjoys working with Rivier University faculty, staff and students. She is committed to sharing her skills and passion to serve others at the OGE. Apart from her work she loves to travel to new places and explore history about different cultures.
