Why Study English at Rivier?

Our B.A. in English students employ a skillful combination of art and science to achieve success in communications. You will be prepared to think critically and creatively and to write with precision and clarity. This unique combination of skills will uniquely prepare you for your chosen career path in a broad range of disciplines and industries.

Our program provides a solid background in literature, critical thinking, and writing in its many forms. You’ll develop an understanding of the historical context and aesthetic traditions of English and American literature, hone your creative and professional writing skills, and explore the interplay between reading and writing literature.

From Classroom to Career

B.A. in English students apply their learning outside of the classroom. As an English major, you’ll complete an internship that helps to build your skills, resume, and professional network. Students have interned at publishing companies, print and online newspapers, marketing and advertising agencies, public relations firms, a variety of large and small corporations, as well as non-profit organizations.

I love when class discussions really achieve lift off, and the students talk not to me, but to each other. When they listen to each other, they engage with the course material and develop each other’s understanding through dialogue.
