B.A. in English

Develop your skills of analysis and expression through concentrated study in literature and creative writing. Our B.A. in English will prepare you for a multitude of professions as well as graduate study.

Why Study English at Rivier?

Our English majors employ a skillful combination of art and science to achieve success in communications. You will be prepared to think critically and creatively and to write with precision and clarity. This unique combination of skills will uniquely prepare you for your chosen career path in a broad range of disciplines and industries.

Our program provides a solid background in literature, critical thinking, and writing in its many forms. You’ll develop an understanding of the historical context and aesthetic traditions of English and American literature, hone your creative and professional writing skills, and explore the interplay between reading and writing literature.

From Classroom to Career

In addition to classroom learning, you’ll complete an internship that will help you build your skills, resume, and professional network. Students have interned at publishing companies, print and online newspapers, marketing and advertising agencies, public relations firms, a variety of large and small corporations, as well as non-profit organizations.

I love when class discussions really achieve lift off, and the students talk not to me, but to each other. When they listen to each other, engage with the course material, and develop each other’s understanding through dialogue.
