B.A. in Early Childhood Education

Prepare to be a leader in the classroom and create meaningful learning experiences. A B.A. in Early Childhood Education will help you become a certified pre-kindergarten and elementary teacher.

Why Study Early Childhood Education at Rivier?

In Rivier’s Early Childhood Education program, you will gain firsthand experience in top-notch education facilities and learn the teaching skills necessary to be confident in front of a classroom. Through observations and student teaching, you will learn to connect theory with practice and be prepared to play a valuable role in the lives of early learners.

As an Early Childhood Education major, you will be required to gain a specialization through a minor in another discipline and complete the New Hampshire State Department of Education Professional Standards for Teachers, both of which are required for certification.

In this program you will:

  • Become an effective educator and communicator
  • Connect theory with practice for classroom success
  • Develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Get Ready for the World

Through a focus on experiential learning and field experience beginning your freshman year, you will build your skills, resume, and professional network. Our proximity to some of the finest school districts in our state offers excellent opportunities for internships and employment. You will gain practical experience through a semester-long student teaching assignment, which will build your confidence in the classroom as well as your resume, and further develop your skills.

Rivier’s Benoit Education Center is one of the finest facilities of its kind in northern New England. It includes an eight-room early childhood laboratory school for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, where Early Childhood Education majors can conduct observations and gain hands-on experience. Our University students provide an additional level of experience and enthusiasm to our early childhood classrooms.

Upon completion of this program, you will be eligible for certification in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario per the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement.
