In the long-standing tradition of Catholic liberal arts education, the study of philosophy has always been regarded as central to the formation of the truly educated person. Thus, Rivier University includes a philosophy as a component of its liberal arts core curriculum.
Courses in the department invite students to participate in the philosophical quest for the purpose of human life, the essence of good community, and the ultimate nature of things. Rivier’s core curriculum, Journeys of Transformation, requires one course in philosophy. This course generally will be taken during the student’s junior or senior year and focuses on the intersection of morality, reason, and justice.
