I have been on the faculty at Rivier since 1971. Since 1996, I have been a Fellow of the American Council on Education. I served as President of Rivier from 1997-2001. I am a member of the Medieval Academy of America; the American Academy of Religion; the Society of Biblical Literature; and the Academy of American Poets. I speak fluent French and read several other languages. I have been a legal, financial, and medical advocate for a handicapped person for over 20 years. My interests are traveling, writing, and playing the piano.

Academic Philosophy
I love the subjects I teach, and want to share that love with students. I believe that it is my responsibility to create the best possible conditions, using a variety of ways of teaching, under which students can learn. If they love what they study (and helping them do that falls under “creating the best possible conditions”), they will learn, and will never want to stop learning as long as they live. I also teach in the hope that they will seek to put their learning to the service of others.
