Rivier's residence halls offer a unique experience in community living, which extends the learning process of the University beyond the classroom. Students and staff work cooperatively to create and maintain a living environment that promotes student growth and respects all residents as individuals. As a member of the residential community, you will become an important part of the campus culture. All members of this community are expected to maintain the highest standards for themselves and others, treating people and property with respect, taking responsibility for their actions, and living in a way that is consistent with Rivier's mission and identity.
Rivier has four residence halls on its 68-acre campus. Traditional aged freshmen and transfers are assigned to Guild Hall, while many returning students and upper-class transfers live in Trinity Hall. Our third residence, Presentation Hall, is home to the University's Wellness Housing program. All students live in double or triple rooms with shared bathrooms and kitchens. Each hall has lounges for socializing or studying. Cable TV and VCR's are available in each building, along with vending and game areas. All rooms are fully wired for high-speed broadband access to the internet and to the University's technology resources.
Each student room has beds, desks, chairs, dressers, closets, and curtains. Students provide their own linens, alarm clocks, radios, decorations, rugs (9x12), utensils and other items that will provide individuality (posters, pictures, etc.).
Brassard Hall is a 121-bed suite-style residence area designed for both undergraduate and graduate students. Residents of the building will share an 11-person fully furnished suite with a living and dining area and two full bathrooms; each suite has 5 bedrooms: 4 doubles and 1 triple. A private entrance separates the suites from the building's common study and lounge areas.
Students may use the following items in their rooms:
- Small refrigerators, radios, hair dryers, televisions, VCRs, video games, desk lamps, computers, telephones. Other appliances are not allowed in student rooms, but may be used in the floor kitchens.

- Microwaves, toasters, irons/ironing boards (provided in kitchens), coffee makers, blenders, sandwich makers: any item with an open heating element. Each kitchen also has a full size refrigerator, oven and stove.
Due to the potential damage to window and screens and the undetermined amount of electricity needed, air conditioners are not allowed in student rooms
Due to fire safety concerns, any item that uses burning flame or has a smoldering effect may not be used on campus. These items include:
- potpourri burners
- electric heaters
- torchiere or halogen lamps, etc.
In addition, students may not decorate with live trees, wreaths or cloth items which hang from the walls, ceilings, doors or over the windows. Any lights or power cords must be UL approved. It is recommended that all students invest in a power strip with a circuit breaker for plugging in multiple items. Extension cords with more than one item plugged in are not allowed.
Each residence area has shared laundry facilities. Washers and dryers cost $1.00 each per load. Students will need to provide their own supplies. The machines are run by laundry debit-cards that students can purchase when they arrive on campus. The washers and dryers do not take coins and operate only with laundry cards.
Each resident is provided with a room key and an access tag for the exterior doors. The front door is accessible 24 hours per day to residents with access tags. The back door is accessible by access tag from 6 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. All other doors are exits only. At 11 p.m. all doors, except the front door, are alarmed, thus requiring all students and guests to enter and exit through the main doors. A desk worker monitors the entryway from 11 a.m.-midnight Sunday-Thursday, and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Visting the Halls
Students may have visitors in their rooms or in the building. All guests are asked to sign in at the front desk of each hall, leaving proof of identification with the desk worker while they are on campus. Overnight visitors must obtain a pass at the front desk. Students may only register same sex guests for overnight stays. Students are expected to escort their guests at all times, whether in the building or around the campus. Residents will be held accountable for the actions of their visitors.
The Mail Room, located in Memorial Hall room 118, offers a convenient location for students to send and receive mail and packages via the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, Federal Express, and other delivery services. Student mail is delivered Monday-Friday; students can pick up their mail during normal business hours. Student addresses are as follows:

Each room is connected with internet and cable services. These features will be connected at the student's request. The Office of Information Technology provides information on the computing policy, connections, and services. Students must provide their own equipment (TV's, computers, etc.) and assume responsibility for the cost of all services.
University Meal Plan
All residents participate in the University's meal plan. The dining room is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, and from 10 p.m.-11:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday; there are designated meal hours each day. All meals are served in the Dion Center cafeteria, unless a student requests a take-out meal to better accommodate work or class schedules.
A Health Clinic, staffed by full time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, is located in Guild Hall. Weekly office hours are posted for walk-in concerns and appointments for special needs or follow-up visits are available on a one-to-one basis. Student records are maintained, confidentially, within the Health Clinic, so that the University may appropriately respond to special needs, which may arise. All students are asked to submit accurate health history and immunization forms.
Residence Life Staff
The Residence Life Staff are a group of trained undergraduates, graduates, and professional staff members who assist all students with social, academic, or personal concerns. In addition to a staff member being on call at all times, active duty “rounds” are conducted each night for policy enforcement, crisis intervention, and management. The Residence Life Staff and Public Safety work closely together to address any health and safety concerns which present themselves throughout the school year.
