Construct a Unique Password
 
Hackers run downloaded lists of names, nicknames, number combinations, slang words, pet names, streets, cities, etc. to gain access to your password.  All of the following should never be used: 

Combinations of birthdays : 31121980, 31280, 1980312
Sequence of numbers : 246810, 123456, abcd1234
Current year (2000 or 9999) after your name
Character in a play, movie, children's book, etc. : jedi, rambo, cinderella, pokemon
Popular words or phrases : dragon, princess, lady bug
Brand names : borden, hershey, ford,  harley
Christian feasts, names, etc. : Trinity, Christmas, Christus
General logons : guest, welcome, hello, password
Common foreign language words : bonjour, gratias
 
How to construct a good password
 
1.  Use a combination of letters and numbers, symbols, etc.
2.  Use at least 8 or more digits
3.  Get a combination that is unique and has meaning for you
 
Example :  My siblings names are Jennifer, Douglas, and Michael
                We were married in 1967
                First child born in 73
                    Construct a password :  jedomi67
                                                       jdm73
                    Only you would know that information!
 
Example :  Use phonetic spelling and add a number(s)
                Construct a password : krokodyle58 or krokodial42 for crocodile
                                                              
Example :  Make up your own language or nonsense word
                Construct a password :  bunjigawa, moradaha, 
 
Example :  Use a combination of Upper / lower case letters
                 Construct a password :  GAB87ra
                                                        
Create a password that is impossible to crack!

Reminder DO NOT:
  • Tape the password to your monitor, towers, under the keyboard, telephone, file cabinet, rolodex file, etc.
  • Leave your password in your desk tray, anywhere on your desk
  • Share your password with others
If you are afraid of losing your password :
  • Write it down and put the word in back of a picture in your wallet
  • Write it down on the inside cover of a file folder that you seldom use (not one labeled Passwords)
  • Be creative and find a safe, secure spot
