Convert Older Documents to Word 2007 .DOCX Format

It is easy to convert a document created in earlier versions of Office 2000-2003:

Open the document
Notice the message on the top

Click the Office Button
Click Convert command on the menu
A pop-up screen displays with this message:

Click OK

Notice the message Compatibility Mode is changed to MS Word the .docx format

The file was converted; make sure you save the file as a Word Document .docx format

If you do not want this message to display in the future, click the Do not ask me again about converting documents box. Not recommended until you are used to the program feature.

The old document file extension was .doc
The  new format file is .docx

Once the document is converted all the new features are available.

You could end up with two documents: one saved in Word 2003 and another for Word 2007 users.
After a while, you might want to delete the Word 2003 .doc format.
