By default Outlook prevents the automatic download of pictures in email messages as a security measure to help prevent possible spamming. As a result, the dreaded Red X box shows up instead of the image. To override this feature:

Open Outlook program
Click Tools
Go to Trust Center
Select Automatic Download

Remove the check in the Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items checkbox.

Click OK to save settings

If you are using the Outlook Web Access (OWA) to access your email from home, youcheck the following Internet Explorer settings.

Open Internet Explorer
Click Internet Options / Go to Advanced tab
Scroll down to the Multimedia section
Check the settings:
1. Show image download placeholders ... clear the box
2. Show pictures ... check the box
OK to save the settings
