Maximum Columns / Rows

I have a very large Excel file. I have no idea what the maximum capacity is?

The Excel program is used extensively in the business world because of the large capacity of data in columns, rows, and worksheets. The following chart will allow you to compare your file with the maximum numbers allowed.

Max. Columns

Max. Rows

Excel 2010

1,048,576

16,384

Excel 2007

1,048,576

16,384

Excel 2003

65,536

256

Excel 2002 (XP)

65,536

256

Excel 2000

65,536

256

Excel 97

65,536

256

The number of worksheets in a single document/spreadsheet is another constraint. Excel 2007/2010 can theoretically handle 255 worksheets in a single document.

Although the program has almost unlimited capacity, the practical limit is the amount of memory on your computer. Most likely you will have plenty of space and memory available. The newer computers have very large disk drives.
