Word Count and Statistics

If you open a document in Word 2007/2010, the named document displays the number of characters on the bottom status bar.

Then the document will open with the number of pages and words on the status bar.

When you type a document, Word automatically counts the number of pages and words in your document and displays the information on the bottom status bar.

The Red X indicates proofing errors were found.
Click the X for spell check

Count Selected Words

Word 2007/2010 also allows you to count the number of words that are selected.
For example:  10/345 signifies that 10 words have been highlighted in a 345 word document.

Count Statistics: words, lines, paragraphs, footnotes, endnotes, and text boxes, etc.
Click Review tab / Proofing group / Word Count

The following screen will display all the information pertaining to the document:
