When sharing a large document with others, sometimes you need to
have someone edit a section of text. The best way to do this is
to add line numbers to the document. When the document is in
final copy, remove the line numbers.
To add line numbers:
Go to Page Layout tab on the ribbon
Page Section group
Click Line Numbers icon
Select one of the options from the drop-down list
Or,
Click
Line Numbering Options...
Click Layout tab

At the bottom, Click Line Numbers... button

The common option is Continuous /OK
Line numbers will automatically be added to the left side of
your document.
To remove line numbers, remove the check mark in the Line Numbers (previous image) / OK
