Insert a Dash in a Document

To insert a true, typographic dash in a document set the proper options.

Click Tools
Click AutoCorrect
Select AutoFormat tab

Click the box Symbol characters (--) with symbols ...

Short cut method:  Ctrl+Alt+- (minus key on the numeric keypad)
