Creating a PPT Presentation in XP

Open the PowerPoint Program.  PPT XP opens directly to a three column set-up.

Column 1 displays 2 tabs:
        miniature outline tab
        miniature slide tab

Column 2 displays the slide working area

Column 3 displays the task pane view with forward and backward arrows, 
        black diamond drop-down list, other task panes

The program also opens with the New Presentation task pane

Click Blank presentation from the task pane
The slide layout in the task pane area has 4 sections:
Text layout
Content layouts
Text and content layouts
Other layouts

These preformatted layout designs are set up to center text, make bulleted lists, add clip art and charts. Any of these slides can be mixed. Select those that will compliment your presentation.

Click View / Toolbars 
Make sure the three following toolbars are displayed
Standard, Formatting, Task pane
Customize the Formatting toolbar
Click the black diamond at the end of the toolbar
Check off the following boxes :

You are now ready to begin to input data.



Click to add title. The border changes to a series of slashes – cursor is centered
Type in the title

Click on Subtitle area if your presentation has a subtitle
Select additional slides from the Layout area
As a blank slide is highlighted a small bar displays on the right



Click black diamond / Click Insert New Slide
Or,
Click on New Slide or Layout icons and create as many slides as you need for your presentation

Save the Presentation

Click File
Save as …
Click on the black diamond and select faculty or staff/faculty on pds (P:) drive
Double click on the name of your personal folder
Create a new folder
Type in PowerPoint
Double click to open the PowerPoint folder
Type in a file name
Click Save
