Open Recent Documents
In Office 2003, this feature was listed as the Work
Menu. It no longer appears in Office 2010, as the feature is integrated
into the File button. The list of Recent Documents will list
all the files you are working on. The push button will allow you to keep
these files active and on the list. Think of pinning documents on a bulletin board they
will remain until you decide to remove them.
Click the File Button / Recent
The second section lists the recent documents and the location of the
document. The Third section includes the Recent Places. At the end of
the screen appears the pushpin. To keep the documents on the list create
a Favorites List by clicking the pushpin to the right of the file name.
The documents will remain on the list. This is a great feature if you
are working with the same documents.
At the bottom of the page there are two more options:

If you check the Quickly access box also increase the number of files
you want displayed.
The opened files will also display on the left-hand side of the screen.
This eliminates the need to click Recent ...

Placement of pinned documents
Newly created documents will appear at the top and the numbers will be
updated. The pinned documents will move down the list. Once they reach
the bottom of the list, they will remain. One great feature, the pinned
documents will be grouped together at the bottom of the list.
Click to unpin the documents
Reset the Number of Displayed
documents
The default number in Office 2010 is 17 documents. The number can be
maximized to 50 listed documents.
Click File / Options
Advanced
Go to Display section
Enter a value up to 50 / OK
