Class of 2012
Hometown: St. Albans, Vt.
Paige Benedict ’12 always knew there was the right college for her, an institution that would help shape her dream of one day working with children. Friends from her hometown told her about Rivier College, and once she arrived as a freshman, she knew she made the right choice. Benedict liked the community feel of the campus, and the quality of the professors and students she met on campus. “You aren’t just a number here. You are a person. You are an individual,” she says. “I was so impressed with the students and faculty that I met.”
Once a student, she took every opportunity to get involved in campus life. For the past three years, she has served as a Student Ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Day Admissions, helping prospective students learn more about the College. She also worked in the College’s Early Childhood Center, a fully accredited on-campus facility offering education and care for children ages six weeks to six years, and for the Sister Mary Anne Quibin Student Health Services providing general office support. Already, these work experiences are translating into a career for her. “All the opportunities I’ve had here have opened a lot of doors back home,” says Benedict, who has been serving as a substitute teacher in her local middle school.
Benedict is confident her Rivier education will allow her to ultimately enter the field of pediatric psychiatric nursing. Last May, she earned her associate degree in liberal studies and this year, she plans to graduate with a bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in sociology. Benedict plans to pursue a degree in nursing once she graduates.
Both her extracurricular and academic experiences at Rivier have laid a solid foundation on which she can build for the future. “It’s been really rewarding,” Benedict says. “It’s been so much fun.”
