Rochester, New York
Tyler Blank learned about Rivier when he was recruited for the University’s Men’s Volleyball Team. Rivier University offered him the opportunity to receive an excellent education, to play on an athletic team, and to make new friends.
He felt welcomed as soon as he came to campus, mostly due to the warm reception he received from his teammates. “Coming in as a freshman can be a scary experience and especially on a sports team with upperclassmen,” says Blank. “I was pleasantly surprised to find how easy it was to make friends, and I seem to be able to make new ones every year,” says Blank.
His teammates, friends, and volleyball coach support his success. “My coach is definitely one of my biggest mentors here at school,” Blank adds. “He is easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. I interact with him on a daily basis, and he shares concepts that apply to the game of volleyball and to life outside of volleyball.”
Blank credits his participation on the team for helping him to prioritize and to be more disciplined. “One of the biggest things I’ve learned…is that the student part comes first and time management is a must,” says Blank. He has been on the Dean’s List every semester since arriving at Rivier and volunteers at the Nashua Police Athletic League working with underprivileged children.
To prepare for his career, Blank joined the Alumni Mentor Program on campus. “A lot of the things that my mentor and I talk about deal with life right out of college and having an open mind when choosing a career,” shares Blank. “He has also given me tips on how to build my resume and interview well.”
After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Blank plans to earn a master’s degree in business administration. He’d like to combine his love for sports with his business degrees and become an athletic director, work on a professional sports team, or own his own business.
