Rivier University has moved to Office 365! It’s more than just email! Office 365 has lots of really cool tools that will enhance your academic experience or your workplace environment. Please click on the Icons below to learn about each of the Office 365 programs available at Rivier.
 

What is Office 365?

Description: Across Your DeviceMicrosoft’s productivity software and related services, now in the cloud.
 

How would I use Office 365?

  • Email will now be hosted in the cloud – at https://outlook.office365.com.
  • Microsoft Office software – Word, PowerPoint, Excel – will be usable by web browser, and across mobile devices. The full versions will be downloadable to your computer.
  • A cloud-based storage system will keep your documents secure, now with the ability to create, edit, and share documents.


Is Internet access required for Office 365?

  • Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of Office suites and all Office 365 subscription plans. 
  • Internet access is also required to access documents stored on OneDrive, unless you install the OneDrive desktop app. 
  • You should also connect to the Internet regularly (at least every 39 days) to keep your version of Office up to date and benefit from automatic upgrades. 
  • You do not need to be connected to the Internet to use the Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, because the applications are fully installed on your computer. 

Do I keep control of my documents with an Office 365 subscription?

Yes. Documents that you have created belong fully to you. You can choose to store them online on OneDrive or locally on your PC or Mac. 
 

Steps to using Office 365:

  1. Go here: http://outlook.office365.com 
  2. Login: username@rivier.edu (include the @rivier.edu)
  3. Click on the “Office 365” at the top


     
  4. Choose one of the icons for the Office product you want to use

 
 

 

What is Mail Description: outlook

Your Rivier University email.

How would I use Mail?

Send electronic communications to other people, either at Rivier University or elsewhere.
 

Steps to using Mail:

  1. https://outlook.office365.com 
  2. Login with your Rivier email address (including the @rivier.edu)
  3. Read your email, create new email, sort by conversations

Mail: How do I update email on my iPhone

1.    Tap on “Settings”
2.    Tap on  “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
3.    Tap on “Add Account”
4.     Select “Exchange”
5.     Enter your Rivier email address, password and description of account, example: Rivier Email
6.    Tap “Next”
7.     Choose the apps you want to sync and click save
 

How do I update email on my Android Phone

1.    Tap on Settings>Accounts>Add account>Exchange
2.     Enter your Rivier email address and tap next
3.     Enter your password and tap next
4.     Tap next on the rest of the prompts (no additional setup required but you may wish to read any notifications)
5.     Another option would be to delete your Rivier account from your phone, and reinstall it with the information above. (Don't worry, everything will reappear when it re-syncs)

What is People?

A list of personal contacts and university directory.  

How would I use People?

Quickly locate the contact information of friends, students, staff, instructors, or other contacts.

  3. Browse for your contact

What is Newsfeed?

A webpage to keep track of topics, conversations, schedules, and contacts.  

How would I use Newsfeed?

  • Post updates about projects, personal portfolios, or #tag about topics (Blog)
  • Customize your profile (About me)
  • Create/share discussion boards (Newsfeed)

Steps to using Newsfeed:

  1. Click on Office 365
  2. Click on Newsfeed
  3. Start a conversation

Newsfeed: How do I edit my About Me profile?

1. Click on About Me 
 
  • 2. Click Edit Profile
     
 
  • 3. Add contact information, profile picture, education, interests, and who can see this info (Everyone, or Only Me)
  • 4. Click “Save all and close” when finished

  • 1. Click on Blog 
 
  • 2. Click on “Create a post” (right-side)
 
  • 3. Give a Title, Body content, Category, Published date, and then click “Publish”

What is OneDrive?   Description: One Drive

OneDrive is an online cloud storage service (15GB) that you can use to store Office documents and other files. With OneDrive you can access your files from nearly any device and you can share them with others.

How would I use OneDrive?  

  • Create new Microsoft Office documents online (ex: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Upload files (ex: Word documents, images, .zip files)
  • Share documents/files with other users

Are my documents stored on OneDrive also available offline? 

To access documents stored on OneDrive offline, you can install the OneDrive desktop app. The app creates a folder on your PC that automatically syncs documents between OneDrive and your computer, so you can work on your documents offline and be assured that they are always in sync.

What happens to the files I stored in OneDrive if I leave Rivier University? 

If you leave Rivier University, you can still access and download all your files by signing in to OneDrive directly using the Microsoft account you used to set up Office 365.

What are Sites? Description: sites pages

An option available for users to collaborate on an Office 365 website or document.

How would I use Sites?

Create webpages for various groups, committees, or organizations, in order to work together on projects or documents.

Steps to using Sites:

  1. Click on Office 365

  3. Create new Site, or view which Sites you are currently following

What are Tasks?  

A folder to keep track of things that you need to do but don’t necessarily want to put on your calendar.

How would I use Tasks?  

Create “To Do” lists, or action items, with due dates.

  3. Create new Tasks, or update existing Tasks

Sites: How do I create a new Task? 

  • 1. Click on “New task”
 
  • 2. Fill in the information
  • 3. Click “Save” (at top)

What is Video?  

Office 365 Video is an intranet website portal where you can post, share, and view streaming videos.

How would I use Video?  

Upload, share, and play videos of executive communications or recordings of classes, meetings, presentations, or training sessions.

  1. Click on Office 365
  2. Click on Video

Video: How do I use channels? 

  • 1. Click Channels (upper-left), or Browse Channels (center) 
  
 
  • 2. Click “New Channel” (upper-right)
 
  • 3. Pick a channel name and channel color, and click Create

  • 2. Click Upload videos
 
  • 3. Select videos to upload (or drag the files to the indicated area)
 
  
Processing time varies depending on video size and length. Some video formats are not supported.

  • 2. Under Channel Settings, click “Permissions”

What is Delve?    Description: Delve-3

Delve helps you discover the information that's likely to be most interesting to you right now – showing you recent documents no matter where they're stored in Office 365 (ex: in OneDrive or Sites).  
  
Delve also lets you view your colleagues' profiles, or edit your own profile.  

How would I use Delve?  

Create or edit your profile, as well as allow others to see what documents you are currently working on.


Steps to using Delve: 

  1. Click on Office 365
  2. Click on Delve
  3. Share your activity and documents with supervisors, friends, or others.

1. Click on the gear icon (upper right), or the “Sharing activity” button
 
 
2. Click on “Share my activity” radio button, and then click “OK”
 

 

 

What is Word Online?  

Microsoft Word Online lets you make basic edits and formatting changes to your document in a web browser. When you save the document in Word, it is saved on the website where you opened it in Word Online.
The document you open in Word Online is the same as the document you open in the Word desktop app, but some features work differently in the two environments.
Editing in Word Online doesn’t show page formatting, such as margins or page breaks, cover pages, or headers and footers. Additionally, many kinds of objects (ex: images) are displayed as placeholders.

How would I use Word Online?  

Create word-processing documents, or edit these documents, when you are not at your computer.
To use more advanced features (beyond what’s available in Word Online) click Open in Word.

What is Excel Online?


Microsoft Excel Online lets you make basic edits and formatting changes to your workbook in a web browser. When you save the workbook in Excel, it is saved on the website where you opened it in Excel Online.

The workbook you open in Excel Online is the same as the workbook you open in the Excel desktop app, but some features work differently in the two environments.

What is PowerPoint Online?


Microsoft PowerPoint Web App lets you make basic edits and formatting changes to your presentation in a web browser.

Easy-to-use note-taking and information-management program where you can capture ideas and information in electronic form.

Take class notes, track errands, take a picture of a whiteboard, add PowerPoint or PDF presentations, and share the document with others.
