19th annual Golf Classic raised more than $47,000 to support health and fitness programs

Rivier's annual Golf Classic brings the community together at the Nashua Country Club.

Rivier University held its annual Golf Classic on Monday, September 26 at the elite Nashua Country Club in Nashua. The Club hosts a beautiful and challenging course making Rivier University's Golf Classic one of the region's premier golf events.

Now in its 19th year, the event directly benefits Rivier students through support of the University's NCAA Division III athletic programs, and health and fitness resources. "The tournament is generously supported each year," says Karen Cooper, Vice President for University Advancement."We sincerely thank our Premier Event Sponsor People's United Bank and Dinner Sponsor Spectrum Marketing Companies, along with more than 65 corporate and individual sponsors, whose generosity made this year's event another great success."

Rivier Raiders compete as Division III members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The University fields thirteen varsity teams-six men's and seven women's teams including baseball, basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, lacrosse, field hockey and volleyball.

"A strong tournament provides the resources for our teams to train and compete nationally," says Joanne Merrill, Director of Athletics. "We are grateful for our sponsors' and golfers' ongoing support of Rivier student-athletes."

In addition to a round of golf played on this exclusive private course, the tournament features closest to the pin, longest drive, tee-to-green, and hole-in-one contests. Prizes are awarded after the tournament at the awards dinner served in Nashua Country Club's Ballroom, which overlooks the golf course.
