On December 3, members of the Rivier University and Greater Nashua community gathered on the Chapel Quad for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Alumni, faculty, staff, family members, students and the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary joined together to celebrate the joy of the Christmas season. Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM, Rivier’s president, led the countdown to the lighting with children encircling the front of the tree, and campus Chaplain Brother Paul Demers, S.C., offered a Christmas blessing.

The event was sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA). Michael Carr ’16, SGA President, welcomed community members on behalf of the Rivier student organization.

“One of the beauties of Christmas is its ability to bring people together and to bring warmth during the coldest time of the year,” said Carr. “As Advent prepares our hearts for Christmas, we are thankful to come together and celebrate the start of the season with our extended campus community.”

Highlights of the event included visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, moving performances of “O’ Holy Night” and “The Christmas Song” by the Rev. Regina Shearer, Associate Vice President for Student Success, and the tree lighting.
