Rivier University Golf Classic raises funds for athletic programs

NASHUA, N.H. – The 16th Annual Rivier University Golf Classic recently raised more than $45,000 to support health and fitness programs and resources, as well as Rivier’s Division III athletic programs. The event took place at the Nashua Country Club on Monday, Sept. 30. Twenty-five teams participated in the tournament, made up of business leaders, alumni, friends, parents, and students.

“We are very appreciative to be in our 16th year and recognize that these many years have been possible because of the generous support of alumni, friends, and the business community. We were honored to partner with more than 50 sponsors this year to raise additional funds for health and fitness programs and resources for our Raiders athletic program and for all of our students,” said Karen Cooper, Vice President for University Advancement.

Rivier Raiders compete as Division III members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the North Atlantic Conference and the New England Collegiate Volleyball Association. The University fields thirteen varsity teams-six men's and seven women's teams including baseball, basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, lacrosse, field hockey and volleyball.

“It’s great to have an athletic event where the proceeds have a direct impact on Riv’s student-athletes,” said Joanne Merrill, Director of Athletics. “The generosity of our sponsors and golfers has helped Raider teams travel and compete in Europe, California, Florida, and South Carolina, to name a few. Without a successful tournament, all of these opportunities would not be possible.”

Tournament sponsors were recognized at the dinner and awards ceremony, including Premier Sponsor People’s United Bank and Dinner Sponsor Spectrum Marketing Companies. The 17th Annual Golf Classic will take place on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at Nashua Country Club.
