40 hours per week/52 weeks per year


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional Staff position responsible for providing academic and career advising to a variety of students. The advisor is a resource for all Rivier students as they plan their academic experience and intended career path.

 

  • Provide academic and career advising for students by meeting individually and in groups at orientation programs and throughout the year
  • Assist students with decisions about majors and the process of declaring/changing majors, guide students during course enrollment periods, provide information on academic support resources and help students develop a responsible approach to academic planning
  • Provide career counseling/coaching to students at all levels individually and in groups
  • Assist students to identify interests and abilities
  • Facilitate career development workshops, introduce students to career resources, review resumes and job search correspondence, guide students through graduate and professional school options and guide students how to make effective choices
  • Create, organize and support major Career Development Center events such as career fairs, internship programs, graduate and professional school fairs and various first year orientation events
  • Collaborate with faculty and Academic Affairs for the most current information for students and a continuous feedback loop to benefit students
  • Contribute to efforts related to outcomes assessment of student learning and evaluation of programs and services
  • Support institutional, divisional and department mission and goals
  • Participate in planning and serve on committee/task force groups and engage in professional development opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, or a related field is required. A minimum of 1-3 years professional experience in a higher education setting is preferred
  • Possess knowledge of the principles, practices used in academic advising, career development and career counseling and a willingness to obtain additional training related to performing position duties
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience with group facilitation, program presentation and teaching
