Inaugural Greeting on behalf of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary
Sister Suzanne Bourret, pm
Provincial Superior, Chair of the Rivier College Corporation
Sister Paula Marie, it is a sincere honor for me to address you on behalf of all the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. You bring to our College your enthusiastic and energetic professionalism and God-given talents that will enable you to continue building on the strong foundations already in place. Many signs throughout the Search Process confirmed for me that you were led here, and many signs continue to indicate that you are offering Rivier College your highest dedication and strongest commitment.
You continue honoring, in so many ways, the rich tradition of Rivier College, the contributions of our past Presidents, three of whom are seated in the audience today, the beautiful stories of our founders, Marie Rivier and Sister Madeleine of Jesus, and the profound implications of our core mission statement, “transforming hearts and minds to serve the world."
As you lead Rivier College into its future, you take your place in the proud tradition of women religious who have led or are leading Catholic institutions of higher education. May we all strive together to engage in an ever richer dialogue between faith and reason and a renewed commitment to continue engaging in a dialogue about the issues facing society, especially the plight of the poor and the powerless. With all our colleagues in all of higher education may you meet the complex challenges of our times with grace and courage.
Sister Paula, we pray that God’s vision for Rivier College continues to unfold in your heart as you listen to both the promptings of the Spirit and the rich insights of the Rivier College Community. May God grant you an abundance of wisdom, compassion, humility, health and joy.
May we, the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, be a support to you, and may you be able to say as Marie Rivier did when challenges confronted her: “I have always relied totally on prayer.”
Congratulations, Sister Paula, and do count on our prayers!
