Inaugural Greeting on behalf of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Sister Lorraine McGrew, IHM
General Superior, Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Good afternoon. I bring you greetings on behalf of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I am honored to join you today for the Inauguration of Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM as the twelfth President of Rivier College.
Sister Paula, I bring you the prayers and good wishes of your IHM sisters. As you accept the mantle of leadership, may your many gifts of intellect and personality benefit this college community. May you reverence the charism of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, hold close to your heart the fine traditions of Rivier, and with confidence born of those anchors, take on the mission of planning and providing for the future. May you listen attentively to the insights of those who will advise you here. May you bring to each task at hand wisdom gained from your previous experiences in administration and then humbly trust that God will guide your judgment.
Rivier’s mission of “transforming hearts and minds to serve the world” offers a context which connects all of us involved in higher education at Catholic institutions. Knowledge alone is never our goal. Rather, knowledge expands our capacity to love and serve individually and together. May we, as educators, model for our students and colleagues the behavior we hope to engender in others.
Finally, Sister Paula, remembering that there is much more to life than the work we do, I wish for you the joy and invigoration that come from the high-energy life of a campus community. I know that spontaneity and a sense of humor are blessings you bring to the ordinary events of daily life. So, may you feel the love and support of your IHM sisters in beginning this new endeavor and may God bless you and all those who form the Rivier College community.
