To perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance, repair and construction work on University buildings and grounds. Assist as needed with other general building and grounds maintenance tasks.   


  • Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled trades work associated with the maintenance, repair and construction of campus facilities, involving one or more of the following: 
  • interior and exterior painting, staining, varnishing: prepare surfaces by cleaning, stripping and/or scraping, apply primers and final finishes; 
  • general carpentry repairs and basic construction tasks involving doors, windows, walls, ceilings, floors; 
  • drywall installation, including taping and joint finishing; 
  • basic plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical projects/tasks, under general direction of a senior technician; 
  • glass cutting and glazing; 
  • roof work (asphalt shingle installation and other roofing surfaces); 
  • assistance on special construction projects, such as erection of stages for commencement ceremonies, installation of fences, construction of stairways, and the like. 
  • basic electrical fixture and line maintenance, repair and installation; 
  • concrete and masonry work (wall repair and construction, laying footings, concrete floors, etc); 
  • Be available on-call for emergency service.  
  • Assist with planning, scheduling and estimating tasks associated with preventive maintenance operations and installation and repair projects. 
  • Adhere to all established safety procedures and standards. 
  • Maintain required records of work done, purchases, inventory, and the like. 
  • Maintain tools and equipment. 
  • Perform general grounds maintenance work as needed, including snow removal, trash pickup and removal, furniture/equipment moving and set-ups, and the like.  


  • High school education, plus 3 to 4 years of relevant technical training/experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. 
  • Broad base of technical knowledge and skills related to the building trades, including rough\and finish carpentry, plumbing/HVAC, electrical, masonry and concrete work, heavy equipment operation, and the like, with in-depth skills/experience in one or more trades area.  
  • Ability to work from blueprints and specifications. 
  • Physical ability to perform all primary job duties. 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and on an on-call basis.The ability and willingness to support the mission of the University, in all daily activities.
