One of two First Year Seminars, this course explores the ways in
which the inherent dignity and sacredness of the human person and “non-human”
creation is defined, explored, and challenged in a range of classic and
contemporary expositional and argumentative texts. In a seminar, students are
expected to participate in discussions, and all students will lead one
discussion during the term. This seminar requires a set sequence of writing
assignments across sections. The seminar culminates in a symposium during which
students present an argument. Taken first or second semester of first year. It
fulfills the General Education first-year writing requirement.
