GOSPEL CHOIR DIRECTOR
DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

(Part-time, 15 hours per week)


OVERVIEW:

The Gospel Choir Director is responsible for the leadership of the Rivier University Gospel Choir. The Director’s oversight includes the recruitment, development and performance of the choir. The position is part-time, 15 hours per week during the academic year. The position reports directly to the Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Recruit, hold auditions and develop group membership
  • Conduct rehearsals, performances and coordinate schedules
  • Select choral repertoire and manage music library
  • Provide at least one concert per semester
  • Participate in University events and programs as requested
  • Ensure a diversity of offerings of Traditional and Contemporary Gospel musical arrangements
  • Identify and hire additional accompanists
  • Manage concert logistics
  • Coordinate marketing and Public Relations efforts with the Office of Marketing and Communications

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Ability and willingness to support the mission of the institution and the department in all daily activities
  • Experience conducting ensembles, choirs, or other vocal groups for concerts and/or other public performances
  • Proficiency in directing and accompanying vocal groups
  • Minimum of two years’ experience conducting choral choirs, preferably gospel choirs
  • Familiarity with traditional and contemporary gospel as well other musical genres
  • Experience directing accompanist  
  • Experience in teaching individual voice lessons
  • Experience transposing and arranging music
  • Demonstration of excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Exhibit understanding of professional relationships, especially with students
  • Displays strong organizational skills
