Credits earned: up to 9 credits for Spring 2014 semester
Required Hours: 20 hours* per week for 14 weeks (*schedule is flexible)

OVERVIEW: The Student Success Graduate Assistant for the undergraduate day student population will provide individual academic counseling with at-risk students to improve their academic performance.  


  • Working one-on-one with students on time management, reading comprehension, note-taking, test-taking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Monitoring at-risk students’ behaviors in terms of academic performance and social practices.
  • Collect and input all data gathered from Peer Mentoring and the Student Success course assessments
  • Serve as a referral resource to Writing & Resource Center, Disability Services, Academic Advising, and Service Learning
  • Maintaining student records and monitoring academic progress and performance
  • Planning, developing, and implementing retention initiatives.
  • Serving as a resource to faculty, staff and all students regarding academic related issues.


  • Must be accepted in a Master's program at Rivier University (Counseling/Education preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, decision making, oral and written communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks at once, organized and detail oriented. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain an appropriate learning environment for students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of diverse constituents including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to adapt tutoring style to varied needs of a diverse population.
  • Proficiency with use of technology, such as E-mail, MS Office Suite and student record management systems and software.
  • The ability and willingness to support the mission of the University, in all daily activities.
