(Full-time; 3rd Shift: 9:00PM-5:00AM)

To supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a custodial/housekeeping crew; to perform all of the regular duties of a Custodian/Housekeeper, including specialized tasks; to assist the Housekeeping Supervisor with other supervisory and administrative tasks as assigned.  


  • Serve as first line supervisor for a crew of up to 23 custodial/housekeeping staff: train new employees; plan and issue daily work assignments; monitor work in progress and check completed work; assist staff with difficult or unusual tasks; refer unusual personnel problems to Housekeeping Supervisor. 
  • Assist in planning staffing needs and work schedules; processing payroll records, and evaluating job performance.  
  • Distribute/deliver janitorial supplies to buildings as required, and make recommendations of inventory control to the Supervisor.  
  • Make quality control inspections to check on quantity and level of proficiency of assigned duties. 
  • To determine staffing needs as required, for personnel who are absent because of vacation, sickness, or planned days off. 
  • Have daily meetings with the Housekeeping Manager to discuss department issues. 
  • Work the overnight shift (9:00PM-5:00AM), and cover the daytime shift if the Housekeeping Supervisor is absent. 
  • Perform all of the regular duties of a custodian/housekeeper: 
  • Clean floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax and buff. Shampoo carpets. 
  • Wash windows, walls, chalkboards, trash receptacles (replace trash can liners daily). 
  • Empty and monitor all recycling containers. 
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, woodwork, windows, baseboards and railings. 
  • Collect and empty trash receptacles, pick up litter in and around buildings and clean and wash building entrances. 
  • Clean, sanitize and stock bathrooms; change and clean shower curtains, wash floors. 
  • Replace light bulbs and wash light covers. 
  • Move and relocate furniture. 
  • Perform routine maintenance of electrical, heating and ventilating vents and fixtures. 
  • Install as required, minor additions such as blinds, curtains and drapes, light bulbs, etc. 
  • Perform related duties as required. 


  • High school education is required with several years of relevant commercial/institutional cleaning experience including supervisory experience. 
  • General computer use ( i.e.  MS Office, MS Word, etc.),  
  • Ability to perform tasks in specific sequences.  
  • Physical ability to do heavy custodial work and operate cleaning equipment. 
  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions, chemical labels and warnings, in English. 
  • Effective supervisory skills 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and to deal courteously with students, faculty and staff. 
  • Ability to work with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System). 
  • The ability and willingness to support the mission of the University, in all daily activities
